When you talk to a kid, it’s important to emphasize “growth mindset” over “fixed mindset.” We can teach kids that if they encounter an obstacle, they can get through it with hard work, practice, and a little resourceful thinking. The same goes for health. We need to foster a growth mindset rather than a fixed mindset about health. Our health is not destined by our genes– it’s in large part determined by our diet and lifestyle choices. That’s empowering, but it’s also a great responsibility.
